This holiday season, I spent some time making "original" painting

Christmas cards. I used the Strathmore card pack/envelops that

you can buy from an art supply source. They are fun to do and each takes

me about 30 minutes to create. Some scenes are all watercolor, others are

acrylic, and others are a mix of the two. The subjects are usually

nostalgic winter scenes which I love to paint.

Then I placed a holiday season greeting on the inside. So, now

the recipients not onlyreceive a card but an original painting

that they can mat and frame. And it so easy to mail these "works" of art.

While this is a watercolor painting, I was able to add some gesso to the rocks to give them more dimension. enjoy. Doing this has given the look of a gouche painting.

Original acrylic of the Rocky Mountains as viewed from Colorado. This is a 16 x 20 gallery wrapped original, one-of-a-kind painting. I have painted on the sides so there is no need to frame the painting. It is ready to hang.

I have used numerous glazes of acrylic paint and gloss medium to create the vibrant colors in this painting. I find that gloss medium help seal the canvas and also makes the light bounce back, thus creating more vibrant colors.

This particular painting took me about 6 hrs. to create so this could be considered one of my "daily painting" that I try to do, although I usually do small paintings of familiar objects, fruit etc that I have on hand.
